An employee who feels good at work

Never more important than now

The traditional office and the shop floor are under pressure. Those who can, must telecommute and on the factory or warehouse shop floor, the atmosphere has already changed profoundly. We owe the latter to a global pandemic. It means we have to keep our distance from our colleagues and stick to numerous necessary measures.

The loss of many social and often intense contacts in the workplace is hard to bear for many employees and weighs on morale. However, feeling good in the workplace is of paramount importance. It makes for happy and satisfied employees who can go to work with satisfaction. All the more reason to take a close look at that same workplace and do everything possible to make it the perfect place to work. The latter is no superfluous luxury. After all, we spend an important part of our lives on the shop floor.

Correct lighting offers only advantages

Did you know that correct lighting in the workplace can have an immense impact on your employee? A correctly lit workplace ensures increased concentration, higher productivity, better quality, lower absenteeism due to illness and, above all, a satisfied employee who feels at ease. By the way, did you know that adjusting the lighting of your workplace always results in a saving of at least 50% of your electricity consumption?

If you are not yet convinced, know that as an employer you are also obliged to provide good lighting at work. After all, every task in the workplace requires an appropriate level of lighting. Insufficient illuminance, annoying reflections or shadowing can make work difficult and lead to visual fatigue. All these appropriate levels are bundled in a legal standard, EN12464-1, which describes indoor workplace lighting.

What measures can you take as an employer?

  • Make use of natural light through windows, skylights, etc.
  • Consider the colour of the lighting.
  • Depending on the type of work, ensure proper and sufficient lighting.
  • Ensure appropriate lighting maintenance. So don't just replace broken bulbs, proactively check areas where lighting is inadequate.
  • Position workstations in relation to the window so that there is plenty of natural light. But take care to avoid complaints of reflection and glare at the same time.
  • So make sure you also have suitable blinds to keep out any annoying sunlight.
  • When working at night, use lighting with the right colour or even better: a dynamic lighting system.
