Forget about energy saving

What good are candles and glasses...

Forget about energy saving when it comes to new lighting in your workplace. It really is totally irrelevant.

How so?

Why? Energy saving is irrelevant. No, it is not. Energy saving in itself is not irrelevant, but as a theme within something like lighting, it is. After all, switching to LED today is like switching from a horse and cart to a Tesla Model S.

After all, old lighting is often so old that new technology with LEDs inherently saves a lot of energy. But as a topic in lighting, energy savings are irrelevant.

Race to the bottom

And yet we see almost everyone in that world busy with complex and less complex Excel tables, ROI calculations to two decimal places. A "race to the bottom" to find the shortest payback period, the largest possible savings, without really paying much attention to the ultimate quality of the lighting plan. Worse still, the stronger the focus on payback period and energy savings, the worse the lighting plan.

The issues that really count are rarely discussed, let alone the incredible opportunities that a quality lighting plan can offer. Yet that's where the big money is, and often in amounts that don't have to be counted to two decimal places.

Zeitgeber

After all, light is extremely important in our workplace, and not only at our workplace. Light and daylight are our most important "zeitgeber" in regulating our sleep and our biorhythms. However, daylight for a large part of the day is not possible for everyone at work. We spend much of the day indoors and many employees today work all day under artificial lighting, without daylight.

A well-lit workplace with a quality lighting plan therefore leads to significant improvements in productivity, quality, sickness absence, accident rates and the general well-being and health of your employees.

90% of our time is spent indoors

By the way, did you know that today we already spend almost 90% of our time indoors? And did you know that for many companies the cost of energy is only 1% compared to 90% of the cost spent on staff and employees?

Then you have my choice. Either charge up to two decimal places for an improvement on 1% of your costs. Or generate an impact on 90% of your costs, with the same impact on energy savings and satisfied and healthy employees.
